Describe the President in One Word

That's what 700+ people were asked to do in three Pew Research Surveys conducted in February 2005, July 2005, and March 2006. The full lists are available here, as well as many interesting graphs and charts depicting the steady swan dive in support coming from every stripe of voter, in every category of question. I thought you might be interested in hearing the top five words used to describe George W. Bush, and seeing how those words have changed in the course of a year.

February 2005: Out of 761 responses, 38 said Honest, 20 Good, 15 Integrity, 15 Arrogant, 14 Incompetent.
July 2005: Out of 751 responses, 31 Honest, 26 Incompetent, 24 Arrogant, 18 Good, 18 Integrity.
March 2006: Out of 710 responses, 29 Incompetent, 23 Good, 21 Idiot, 17 Liar, 14 Christian.

Some interesting things I noticed from viewing the
full lists: Idiot and Liar had always hovered in the top ten, but the term Christian started out 18th on the list in February '05, inched up only to 13th in July '05, and then leaped to 5th place in March... wha?

You could say that more fundamentalist Christians were in on the last survey, and considered Christian a more realistic label than Honest or Integrity or Trustworthy. But you also have to admit that more fed-up, liberal-leaning types also got in on this survey, based on the top five compared to previous top choices.

But what is it about George Bush's record that makes people think he is a Christian? Suddenly, after five years of broken promises and dead Americans, he ascends to the status of Good, Christian?? Is it his flagrant disregard for rivers and trees and the sky, God's only material existence? Is it his flagrant disregard for children between the ages of 1 minute and 18 years and their single mothers? Is it his obscene use of the Lord's name in vain every day as license for his many sins? Is it his pride and greed?

I find it disturbing that the number of people who find George Bush to be Christian is rising rapidly, despite his behavior and policies. Obviously, the secret handshake is all it takes to get inside the gates, and a wink is as good as a nod to a blind man. I believe The He-Man Woman Haters Club was more discriminating. It's sad in a 'Jesus wept' sort of way.

The real joke here is that while people are calling him 'good' and 'Christian', their poll numbers sure aren't backing him up, unless the 33 percent who approve of him are one collective hive mind who all replied with the same answer.
